Visitor Information

Chamber music provides the most intimate, engaging experience in classical music performance. With no more than ten musicians and only one person playing each part, it’s like listening to a group of soloists, each expressing themselves through their part. You don’t need any special knowledge to love chamber music, just a willingness to be open to the expression of the performers.

Visitor FAQs

Q: When should I arrive?

A: Doors to the auditoriums typically open 30 minutes before the performance unless there is a pre-concert talk. Check the concert listing to see if there is a talk for your particular concert. Arriving early will allow you time to read the program notes and learn about the music you are about to hear.

Q: Will I receive program notes in advance?

A: Program notes are usually emailed to people who have purchased their tickets at least four days before the concert along with a program reminder.

Q: Should I clap during the concert?

A: It’s traditional at classical music concerts not to applaud between movements (that is, each part) of a multi-movement piece, but sometimes a movement will have such a big ending that people will burst into spontaneous applause, which is no big deal.

Q: Can I bring food?

A: Most concerts will have a short intermission (15 to 20 minutes). At the Opera House, there is a bar with drinks and snacks open before the concert and during intermission. Outside food and drink are not allowed in the auditoriums at both Riverview and Opera House.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: There is no dress code for our concerts. You are as likely to see people in suits and dresses as you are in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, although many people do like to dress up a bit and make it a “night out.”

Q: Can I take photos during the concert?

A: Recording or photography during concerts is not allowed.
